Community Through the Decades

Christ Church has always been more than a place of Sunday worship. For over 160 years it has been woven into the daily life of Biddulph Moor: through harvest festivals and village fetes, choir practices and painting parties, community fundraisers and quiet acts of neighbourly support.

The choir has been a particular thread running through the church history. The first photographic record from around 1905 shows 11 men and 14 boys. By 1971 women had taken a central role, with a choir that included many names still remembered in the village today.

The tradition of community service is perhaps best illustrated by the biannual painting parties held the day after Boxing Day; members of the congregation giving up their holiday to maintain the building they loved.
