Our History
The vision for an Anglican church on the moor was fervently championed by James Bateman of Biddulph Grange in the mid-19th century. Despite challenges, including financial constraints, Bateman's unwavering dedication and collaboration with Edward Cooke culminated in the realization of our distinctive place of worship. Consecrated in 1863, Christ Church stands as a testament to the perseverance and generosity of its founders and benefactors.
A Vision Realised
Retaining many architectural features of the Italianate style, including a magnificent apse, Christ Church exudes timeless elegance and grace. Crafted from stone quarried at nearby Over the Hill, our church is a tribute to local craftsmanship and heritage. The enduring legacy of our builder, Mr. Stanway, echoes through generations, with his descendants continuing to enrich our community.
